Annual Group Meet of All India Coordinated Research Project on Soybean (AICRPS) concludes

The 3-day Annual Group Meet of All India Coordinated Research Project on Soybean (AICRPS) organized from 19-21 February 2025 at Chaudhary Saran Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Palampur concluded today.
During the concluding session, Dr Naveen Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, CCSHPKV, Palampur briefed about the importance of soybean both for mankind and livestock and urged creating awareness about the ways and means of soybean cultivation using new approaches and cultivars.
Dr Sanjeev Gupta, Assistant Director General (Oilseeds & Pulses), ICAR, praised the scientists for their efforts in developing food-grade soybean varieties. He also emphasized the need to enhance oleic acid content in soybeans and develop varieties resistant to diseases such as Charcoal Rot and Yellow Mosaic Disease. Additionally, Dr Gupta stressed the importance of using micronutrients like molybdenum and boron to boost soybean productivity.
Dr K.H. Singh, Director, ICAR-National Soybean Research Institute, Indore, reviewed the progress and achievements of various trials and experiments conducted across the country during 2024-25. He also lauded the efforts of soybean scientists for their progress and expressed his concern for variable yields and challenges ahead in view of climatic adversities being experienced in recent years.
During the occasion, a special meeting of the varietal identification committee approved the proposal to recognize JS 24-43, developed by scientists at JNKVV, Jabalpur, for cultivation in Central India.
More than 60 scientists belonging to major soybean-growing states attended the meeting.
