The 59th foundation day of the ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI) was celebrated. Dr. A.K. Singh, Vice- Chancellor, Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Gwalior and former DDG (NRM) was the chief guest of the function. CAZRI alumni Dr. S.P. Kimothi, ADG (Coordination) and Dr. P.C. Sharma, Director, CSSRI, Karnal who are were the guests of honor. The celebrations began with the Foundation Day Lecture by Dr. A.K. Singh on ‘Is Agricultural Water Crisis Solvable’. This was followed by the main function in which Dr. O.P. Yadav, Director welcomed the esteemed guests, employees of CAZRI and also the retired employees of ICAR and highlighted the major achievements of institute during last one year that included establishment of Agri-Voltaic System and enhancing the research-undertaking capacity, outreach programme, quality publications and supply of improved quality planting material from institute.
All the dignitaries visited experimental area and appreciated the efforts of institute in addressing the problems of arid zone in a comprehensive way. Dr. A.K. Singh appreciated the work of CAZRI in cutting edge technologies and advised institute to concentrate on developing technologies which can double the income of farmers.
On this occasion nine institute’s employees were awarded for their outstanding contributions. Dr. R.K. Kaul was given a very special Appreciation for his outstanding work in PME cell of the institute. Retired employees also recalled their previous experiences of working in institute. The function ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Praveen Kumar, Organizing Secretary of the Foundation Day.
