Detoxified Karanja cake

Pongamia glabra (Syn. Pongamia pinnata), popularly known as karanj (Syn. Karanja, Honge, Gaanuga, Pongam, Pungu, Indian Beech), belongs to the natural order Leguminosae and family Papilionaceae.. After removal of oil from the seeds and proper detoxification, the residue can be converted into wholesome protein substitute (having 37 % CP). Longterm feeding trial using male lambs demonstrated safe use of detoxified Karanja cake as a replacement of soybean meal nitrogen up to 50% level. Further studies will be conducted to demonstrate its use in milch cattle
