An interaction meeting to refresh the excellent relationship between ICAR and IFAD and possible collaboration on research, development and capacity building, was held here today. Dr T Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE & DG, ICAR, Dr Perin L Saint Ange, Associate Vice President, International Fund for Agricultural Development, Rome, Italy and other officials discussed about need to move faster in strengthening collaboration in a specific time frame.
ICAR is in the advanced stage of developing a project, “Scaling up and integrating renewable energy based farm gate technologies for empowering small holder farming families in India” for funding from IFAD. Also, The Council is in process of extending facilities and support of KVKs to IFAD projects in Nagaland and Mizoram. Issues of climate change, youth & women empowerment, and capacity building need to be addressed to facilitate technological change and economic growth in stakeholder participatory mode.
There was a very fruitful discussion on mutual interests for developing a possible collaboration with several potential outcomes. The collaboration may also be extended towards international partnerships and replicated in Africa.
Ms. Meera Mishra, Country Coordinator, Asia and the Pacific, IFAD; Dr Kanchan K Singh, ADG (Engg.), ICAR; Dr. R. K. Mittal, OSD (IR), ICAR; and Dr V P Chahal, ADG (Extension), ICAR also participated in discussion.
