ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun celebrates Annual Day

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (ICAR-IISWC), Dehradun celebrated its 45th Annual Day here today. Shri Subodh Uniyal, Minister of Agriculture and Horticulture, Uttarakhand graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address he highlighted the importance of soil and water conservation in agriculture and the prima role agriculture plays in livelihoods of rural Uttarakhand. Highlighting the present agricultural scenario of the State with migration as the prime problem, he emphasized on the idea of Community Farming and “Chak Bandi” as a solution to the problem. The State has lost 15% of its agricultural land in the past 17 years since its inception, which is an alarming fact and needs to be checked immediately to preserve social and geographical diversity of the State, he added. Addressing the farmer audience, he stressed upon importance of organic farming and horticulture in the State for benefit of farmers. The Minister briefed about the development works being undertaken for the rural population of the State.

Shri Uniyal also released Institute Publications for the year 2017-18 and felicitated farmers.

Dr. P.K. Mishra, Director, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun highlighted the recent activities and achievements of the Institute.

The day’s celebrations ended with various sports activities and cultural programme by the scientists and staff of the Institute and their families.
