The ICAR- National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, celebrated the Agriculture Education Day on 3rd December 2017. To commemorate the Birth Day of Bharat Ratna, Dr Rajendra Prasad, our First President of Independent India, the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, celebrate this day as Agriculture Education Day. Dr Rajendra Prasad was also the first Agriculture Minister of the country; the main purpose of agriculture education day is to attract talent towards agricultural education.
Inter-school competitions on painting, debate and elocution were participated by seven High Schools in Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. In the morning of 3rd December, 3K Run was organized from PDP to Rajendranagar, where a large number of college and school students participated.
Chief Guest, Dr David Bergvisnson, Director General, ICRISAT, said that India has the challenges of malnutrition, lack of micronutrients etc for which top brains are required for innovative agricultural research, therefore talented students must join agriculture education. He concluded with ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’.
Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, NAARM in his address emphasized upon the role of teachers and parents for motivating students for taking up agriculture education as a career option. He also stressed that talented students can be an asset in providing quality food, livelihood security and develop secondary agriculture through innovative agri-business ideas.
During the ceremony, Dr SK Soam, Joint Director (In-charge) & the Nodal Officer of the event shared his research results explaining that during perception analysis, the respondents found BSc (Agriculture) better than BSc (Biology) and B. Com on many parameters and criteria.
Mr G. Srikant, Xth class student of Government High School, Rajendranagar, was the overall Champion in 3K run. He is the poor student from village background and runs bare-foot because he does not have shoes.
