Union Agriculture Minister Calls for the Creation of A New India and Empowering the Farmers by 75th Anniversary of Independence

The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Radha Mohan Singh appealed to the agricultural scientists of the country to empower the farmers of the country by doubling their income till the 75th anniversary of independence. He stated this in his address on the last day of the two-day workshop organized on 'Developing a Roadmap for Agricultural Knowledge Management in India' by the Directorate of Knowledge Management in Agriculture (DKMA), under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

On this occasion Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) and Director General, ICAR; Mr. S. N. Tripathi, Additional Secretary (DARE) and Financial Advisor, ICAR; Dr. A. K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Agriculture Extension); Dr. J. K. Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries); Dr. Ajit Maru, Former Expert, FAO; Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Vice Chancellor, Bihar Veterinary Science University; Dr. S. K. Singh, Project Director, DKMA and other agricultural scientists were also present.

The Minister appreciated the efforts done towards making the KVK Portal more friendly for farmer use and also advised the Council to focus on introducing the ICAR Portal and Student Portal. Shri Singh hoped that after the brainstorming of agricultural scientists and IT experts coming to this workshop, many useful recommendations will emerge which will create a future road map of agriculture knowledge management in the country.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) , in his address, explained the need to make use of agricultural knowledge and information together with the analysis of the information. He also asked for emphasis on increasing the use of Cloud computing in agriculture in this sequence. Shri Mohapatra also emphasised the need for maintenance of plant health and animal health just like soil healthcard have been introduced for soil health care.

In the workshop, Deputy Director Generals of ICAR, Director of Institutions, Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities, Scientists and students from various research institutes in the country participated in large number.
