Workshop for KVKs inaugurated at Dantiwada, Gujarat

Two-day State Level Mid Review and Planning Workshop for Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Gujarat was inaugurated at Sardar Krushinagar Dantiwada Agriculture University (SDAU), Dantiwada, today.

The workshop is being organised by ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Jodhpur to review the progress made by KVKs during 2016-17 and to plan for the year 2017-18.

Prof. A. A. Patel Vice Chancellor, SDAU in his inaugural address appreciated of KVKs for efficient & frontier technology transfer system and acting as mini agricultural University at District level. Developing the model farmers as success stories for wide horizontal spread of technologies, the need to be emphasized by KVK scientists He also briefed about the significant achievements in the different areas such as Integrated Farming system (IFS), Agro-forestry, Indigenous breed improvement of Kankrej cattle and Mehsana buffalo, development of hybrids of cotton and castor and its improved cultivation practices.

Dr. S. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute .Jodhpur briefed about evolution of KVKs as vocational training centre to Knowledge Resource Centre at district level. He appealed to KVKs to focus on technology backstopping by developing backward and forward linkage. He briefed about the various schemes being implemented through KVKs for betterment of farming community.

‘Mobile Phone based Voice Message Service’ a collaborative initiative of SDAU, Dantiwada and Reliance foundation was launched during the event by the dignitaries.

Five publications of the KVKs were also released during the inaugural session.

Directors of Extension Education of SAUs of Rajasthan presented the progress of KVKs under their jurisdiction.

In the event, 30 KVKs and 4 Directors of Extension Education (DEEs) from State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) actively participated and presented the progress of KVKs under their jurisdiction.
