Annual Conference of Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities and Directors of ICAR Institutes

Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare inaugurated a two-day Annual Conference of Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities and Directors of ICAR Institutes  here today. Addressing the occassion, Shri. Singh stressed that youth are strength of the country and they should be attracted towards agriculture. He expressed his satisfaction on smooth operation of 'Arya' and 'Student Ready' programs. Shri Singh said that we are rapidly proceeding in the direction of doubling the income of farmers by 2022 and we will be self-sufficient in oilseeds and pulses production in the near future. To achieve the above dream, Shri Singh evoked the farmers, scientists, stakeholders and research institutions.

On this occasion, Shri Singh also presented awards to Directors of various ICAR institutes and KVKs. A total of 31 awards were given under various categories namely 8 Best Agricultural University (JRF) (2 each under four classes), Best ICAR Annual Report Awards (3), Cashless ICAR Institutes (19) and KVKs (12). Publications namely 'Beekeeping in India’, published by ICAR; ‘Animal Genetic Resources of Tamil Nadu; by TANUVAS;  'Climate Change and Agriculture’ from PAU, Ludhiana;  'Introduction to Intellectual Property Rights from GBPUAT, Pantnagar and  ‘An Overview of the Processes/Technologies /Machines Development’ from AAU, Anand was also released by the Minister.

Annual Conference of Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities and Directors of ICAR Institutes Shri Parshottam Rupala, Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, in his address stressed that it is essential to pass on the developed technologies to the farmers’ fields for the upliftment of small and marginal farmers. Shri Ruplala mentioned that honour and dignity of farmers is being aided through Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay National Agricultural Awards. He informed that a total of 14 million cards are to be distributed under Soil Health Card Scheme. The Youth of the country should also be integrated with these schemes, he added.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) said a record 310 varieties of various crops were released by ICAR institutions in 2015-16. He hoped that through the cultivation of these developed varieties, increase in agricultural production will be possible.

Sunil Kumar Singh, Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor (DARE/ICAR),  Shri Chhabilendra Roul, Additional Secretary (DARE) & Secretary (ICAR), Dr. Gurbachan Singh , Chairman (ASRB),  Dr. Narendra Singh Rathore, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education)  and  Dr K M Bujarbaruah (VC, Assam Agricultural University) also graced the occasion.
