Food and Agribusiness accelerator 2.0 : AGRI UDAAN launched

Prof Ramesh Chand , Member NITI Aayog Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) launched AGRI UDAAN: Food and Agribusiness Accelerator 2.0 here today. 

The main objective of this programme is to scout for startups, who are ready for scaling up.  A web application (www.aidea.naarm.org.in) was launched for this purpose.

Prof Ramesh Chand, Chief Guest emphasized that startups can really try to innovatively solve the problems faced by Indian agriculture in three different verticals 1) procurement of input 2) production and quality issues and 3) marketing of output. He stressed the need for transition and disruptive changes in agriculture which can come from startups. 

Dr T Mohapatra in his presidential address spoke about the ICAR initiative in transforming technology into business. He told that there are 25 Agribusiness Incubators (ABIs) including one in NAARM. He emphasized that the ABIs need to pursue the objectives more rigourously.

Two books “An Enchiridion on Agri-Startups in India” and “Startup Profile” were released on the occasion.

Earlier, Shrir HK Mittal, Advisor, Secretary of National Science and Technology Development Board (NSTEDB) of Department of Science and Technology(DST) said to become entrepreneur only knowledge is not enough but action is also needed.

Shri Ashwin Joshi of IIM’s CIIE has briefed about the activities of their organization. 

Dr Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, while welcoming guests have outlined the objectives of AGRI UDAAN and requested the startups who are ready to scale up to apply for the programme on the platform linked to aIDEA website.

NAARM’s TBI a-IDEA and IIM-A’s CIIE jointly rolled out the AGRI-UDAAN with the support of NSTEDB, DST involving Caspian Impact investors as Platinum partner, Yes Bank as Banking partner, NeML and Marico Innovation Foundation (MIF) as Silver Partner, Ag Innovate and NRDC as Technology partner and FICCI as outreach partner.
