Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Washim organised an exposure visit and training for goat farmers, Washim district from 16th-20th October 2023 due to climate vulnerability. This was done to encourage and inform them about innovative projects and commercial goat farming under National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, supported CAT scheme.
Shri. Shankar Kokadwar, DDM, Washim, interacted with participants and elucidated that technological upgradation and innovation help entrepreneurs and FPO members realise higher returns through sustainable farming and flagged off the farmer's study tour.
Dr. S.K. Deshmukh, Nodal Officer, NTI-KVK, Washim, was present during the visit.
Farmers visited Savitribai Phule Goat Farming Producer Company Ltd. Sinnar on 17th-18th October 2023, learning about silage preparation, vermi-composting, scientific goat farming, value addition, and market linkages for goat milk products. They also attended a session on financial inclusion, vaccination, and cattle insurance, and maintained separate accounts for women farmers. Similarly field visit to individual goat unit of Mauli Goat farm of village Panchale and live demonstration of various breeds and their separate maintenance in a single unit.
To sensitize the importance of the integrated farming system approach on 19th October 2023, farmers visited YCMOU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nashik. They gained practical knowledge about high-tech fruit crop nurseries, modern KVK farms, bio-agent production laboratories, beekeeping demonstration units and commercial poultry units of black australorp breed and agroforestry plantation and its commercial viability.
A total of 25 farmers from Washim district mainly from FPOs promoted by KVK and interested goat farmers participated in the exposure visit.
