ICAR-DCFR organised Training for Fisheries Officers

ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal organized 5-day training program for Fishery Officers of Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Mizoram on “Hatchery Management for Fish Seed Production of Golden & Chocolate Mahseer” during 24-28 January 2016 at Aizawl.

Shri B. D. Chakma, Minister of Fisheries and Sericulture, Govt. of Mizoram highlighted the possibility of expansion of coldwater aquaculture in the state in collaborative effort of the department of fisheries through the technical guidance from ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal. He also stressed upon the propagation, hatchery management and rehabilitation of golden and chocolate mahseer along with Semiplotus modestus (Locally called as Navang, the state fish of Mizoram) which is native fauna found in the rivers of Mizoram and are presently under threatened status. Shri Chakma was addressing the valedictory session of the training programme as Chief Guest.

Earlier, Shri Thlamuana, Secretary of Fisheries, Govt. of Mizoram inaugurated the event. He accentuated on bringing new potential fish in aquaculture and also for ornamental fish business to improve the livelihood security through aquaculture and recreational fisheries of the state.

More than 25 Fisheries Officers representing each eight districts of Mizoram participated in the training program.
