Capacity Building on Maize Cultivatioin and Value-addittion

ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research, New Delhi organized four training programmes were by the on production and value-additional technologies of maize during the ongoing crop season ( 15 September – 30 October 2015).

Institute conducted three National Level Training programmes for tribal farmers in which 118 tribal farmers from nine states viz., Assam (6), Chhattisgarh (8), Gujarat (15), Jharkhand (7), Odisha (18), Madhya Pradesh (18), Rajasthan (30), Uttar Pradesh (6) and Telangana (10) participated.

Farmers were exposed to the various production and processing aspects of maize and  visits to the field and processing plants. The trainees interacted with the farmers on production technologies, processing and marketing of the baby corn and sweet corn. The seed of improved hybrid and a hand-sheller were provided to each tribal farmer.

A model Training Course on “Production, Protection and Value Addition for Maize based Production Systems” was concluded for extension personnel. About 37 officers including 7 women officers of state agriculture development /extension department and national agriculture research system from eight states viz. Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya and Uttar Pradesh participated.
