National Seminar on Contextual Relevance of ITKs in Plant Protection Organized

ICAR-National Centre for Integrated Pest Management, New Delhi organized two-day National seminar on Contextual Relevance of ITKs in Plant Protection from 28-29 October 2015 in collaboration with ICAR-IARI at Pusa Campus New Delhi.

Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), while inaugurating the event encouraged a separate platform for monitoring of ITKs, where the promising ITKs can be validated scientifically for plant protection in field as well as storage, through the ICAR network. He also indicated importance of hidden meaning in rural folksongs and proverbs.

Dr. J. S. Sandhu, Deputy Director General (Crop Sciences), in his presidential address, urged to prioritise key areas while formulating the multidisciplinary projects for validation of ITKs.

Dr. A. K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), urged to have a Nodal Agency, as a hub of these activities, and coordinate with network of KVKs, ATARIs and other organizations.

Dr. T. Mohapatra, Director ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi recapitulated the need of validation before their application.

Dr. J. P. Sharma, J.D. (Extension), ICAR-IARI mentioned the importance of ancient religious and secular texts of India as gold mine of knowledge.

Earlier, Dr. C. Chattopadhyay, Director, ICAR-NCIPM welcomed all dignitaries.

Dr Sumitra Arora, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NCIPM proposed the vote of thanks.

The seminar was attended by a number of senior and young professionals in this field from across the country apart from farmers with rich experience in ITKs.
