Training Programme on Integrated Watershed Management

poultry-01-27062016A five-day short training course on ‘Integrated Watershed Management’ was organized at ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Dehradun from 06-10 June, 2016. The training course was sponsored by Directorate of Agriculture & Food Production, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. 

Dr. P.K. Mishra, Director, ICAR-IISWC, briefed about management of rain water harvesting, use of single drop of water for more crops, sustainable use of natural resources for increase in livelihood security and socio-economic upliftment of farmers in the watershed area.

Course content of the training included integrated watershed management approach, map reading characterization and watershed delineation, watershed evaluation, use of remote sensing and GIS in watershed planning and PRA techniques through class room sessions.

Field visits to the institute’s museum, research farm Selakui; participatory water resource management project at Kalimati; and Sainji watershed near Mussoorie were also organized to enhance in-depth insight and exposure of participants in real field situations.

Twenty officers from 14 districts of Odisha attended the programme.
