Prof. K.V.Thomas, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Govt.of India visited the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) Regional Station, Kayamkulam and its Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Alleppey on 15th May 2010. Prof. Thomas laid the foundation stone for the construction of Administrative Building of KVK –Alleppey in the presence of Sri.K.C.Venugopal, MP, Alappuzha , Dr. S. Rajan, Assistant Director General (Horticulture ), ICAR, New Delhi, Dr.George V. Thomas, Director, CPCRI and other officials from various departments.
In his address, the Minister stressed that CPCRI should strengthen the activities through formulation of viable projects on dwarf varieties of coconut as well as homestead farming with the cooperation of Coconut Development Board, State Department of Agriculture and other Local Bodies (Self Help Government) to take the research output to the farmers at large.
Sri.K.C.Venugopal, MP emphasised that the Regional Station and its KVK should further strengthen the activities especially to cover the entire district of Alappuzha through workable projects under various schemes of Government of India.
