National Dairy Fair Inaugurated at NDRI

Dr. R.S. Paroda, Chairman, Haryana Kisan Ayog and former Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR inaugurated National Dairy Fair at National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal today.

National Dairy Fair Inaugurated at NDRIDr. Paroda appreciated the efforts of NDRI in the field of animal biotechnology and dairy technology, while delivering his address as Chief Guest. He said that new initiatives should be taken for enhancing milk production with greater efficiency and further processing. He emphasized the need for commercial production of Mozzarella Cheese that is in great demand in domestic and overseas market. Dr. Paroda also stressed upon the need to form self help groups and co-operatives for development of market linkages to enhance profitability of farmers. New techniques for production of bio gas and use of renewable sources of energy may be adopted at farm level to conserve conventional energy sources while minimizing environmental pollution. He urged farmers to reap benefits of various government schemes and also advised scientists to develop low cost rural based processing technologies for betterment of farmers.

In his presidential address, Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Director, NDRI hoped that dairy fair will be a good learning experience for farmers and provided easy tips for prevention of livestock diseases. Dr. Srivastava said that FMD has not yet been eradicated from the region, therefore, animals should be vaccinated regularly. He hoped that scientist-farmer interface will effectively meet the demand of 191 million ton milk in 2020.  

Dr. B.K. Joshi, Director, NBAGR; Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Project Director, DKMA; Dr. R.S. Dalal, Secretary, Haryana Kisan Ayog, Senior officials from line departments and NDRI also graced the occasion. Dignitaries also released publications on the occasion.

Earlier, Dr. D.K. Gosain, Organizing Secretary welcomed the dignitaries and briefed about the programme. Farmers, exhibitors and students are participating in the 3-day (25-27 February, 2013) dairy fair in which around 500 animals are also being displayed. Interaction with scientists and cattle competitions will also be organized in the fair.
