Shri Sharad Pawar visited Cardamom Research Centre of IISR

Shri Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Food Processing industries Shri Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Food Processing industries visited the Cardamom Research Centre (CRC) of IISR at Appangala in Karnataka and interacted with the scientists and farmers. Shri Pawar expressed Satisfaction over the research findings and achievements of the centre. He also praised the farmers of the locality for adopting the improved varieties and technologies developed by CRC, Appangala. Shri Pawar also emphasized upon the need for increased focus on the biotic and abiotic stresses and urged the scientists to collaborate with the newly established institutions at Baramathi. The Minister stressed the need for mechanization in farm operations and effective transfer of technology to large number of growers.

Ankegowda, Head, CRC made a presentation on the centre’s achievement. The centre has released three varieties of cardamom, Appangala 1 for higher yield, IISR Vijetha, a virus resistant variety and IISR Avinash the rhizome rot resistant variety of cardamom.
