Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Bhubaneswar organized an expert consultation meeting on ‘Water Resilient Aquaculture - Vision for 2050’ on 6th September, 2013. Dr. K.K. Vass, Former Director, Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore inaugurated the meeting while Dr. P. Jayasankar, Director, CIFA welcomed the participants and highlighted the main focus of this expert consultation. On this occasion, Dr. Jayasankar also emphasized upon efficient and productive utilization of water for aquaculture and development of new strategies for water resilient fish culture.
Dr. K.K. Vass, Former Director, CIFRI, Barrackpore; Dr. V.V. Sugunan, Former Assistant Director General (Inland Fisheries), ICAR; Dr. Arunabha Mitra, Professor, Aquaculture Engineering Section, IIT, Khargpur; Dr. S. Pasupalak, Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Meteorology, OUAT, Bhubaneswar; Dr. Balram Panigrahi, Professor and Head, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, CAET, OUAT, Bhubaneswar and Dr. LM. Garnayak, Chief Agronomist, AICRP on IFS, OUAT, Bhubaneswar were among the distinguished experts in the expert consultation meeting. Experts expressed their views about freshwater availability in 2050 and suggested that aquaculture should be developed into a water-resilient practice since water is going to be the most important constraint in another 10-20 years down the line.
Scientists, technical officers and research scholars of CIFA and scientists from the four other ICAR Fishery Institutes were also present in the meeting. Dr. S. Adhikari, Principal Scientist coordinated the programme.
