Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare inaugurated the National Dialogue on “Innovative Extension System for Farmers Empowerment and Welfare” here today.
In his inaugural address, he emphasized to strengthen agricultural extension system so that farmers may benefit from the technologies without losing precious time. He appreciated ICAR and its KVKs who have demonstrated their ability and visibility by fastening the process of lab to land. Agriculture Minister elaborated on various new schemes launched recently for the welfare of farmers through improved resource management and marketing. He also expressed his concern on various new challenges, especially nutritional security and global climate change. He hoped the deliberations in national dialogue will be useful for developing future strategy.
Dr S Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR, in his address highlighted the important role of agricultural extension in enhancing the income of farmers through application of science and technology. He urged agricultural scientists to work in close collaboration with farmers for developing appropriate and cost effective farm technologies.
Dr R. S. Paroda, Chairman, Trust for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences (TAAS) and former Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR Chairman, , stressed the need to effectively transfer the technologies to farmers for enhancing productivity and profitability of agriculture. He elaborated on various initiatives being taken by TAAS to develop innovative extension systems for farmer’s empowerment and welfare.
Earlier, Dr A. K. Singh, DDG (Agricultural Extension) in his inaugural address outlined the objectives of the national dialogue and briefed on the recent achievements of the ICAR Agricultural Extension system.
Senior officials from ICAR, TAAS, NGOs and related public and private organizations participated in the event.
