Indian Council of Agricultural Research celebrated ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan’ Week from 23 December to 29 December 2015 on the birth anniversary of former Prime Ministers Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Late Shri Chaudhary Charan Singh. The celebration was organized keeping in view their immense contribution for promoting use of science for the welfare of farmers.
ICAR Institutes and KVKs across the country organized various farmer awareness programs aiming showcasing and demonstration of new technological advances for enhancing productivity and profitability of agriculture. Progressive farmers who have successfully adopted latest technologies and have made contribution in wide scale adoption of technologies by farmers were felicitated.
To attract students towards agriculture, essay writing competitions, debates, group discussions, quiz competitions were also be arranged in schools and colleges.
ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubneshwar
ICAR-CIFA in collaboration with NFDB, organized Farmer-Scientist Interaction Meet on “Importance of quality fish seed in Aquaculture” on 23 December 2015, at Kakdwip, West Bengal to sensitize the fish seed growers, farmers and other stakeholders on the importance of quality seed to increase the production and to improve hatchery practices to avoid inbreeding.
Officials from Department of Fisheries, Govt. of West Bengal and scientists from other ICAR Institutes and over 150 farmers attended the meet.
On this occasion, 15 progressive farmers were felicitated by Dr. P. Jayasankar, Director, ICAR-CIFA.
A Scientist-Student interaction was held on 28 December, 2015. Around 60 students participated in the meet and visited facilities of ICAR-CIFA like carp culture unit, feed mill and aquarium and were shown videos on aquaculture.
A kit containing few books/literatures on aquaculture was presented to all the school children.
On 29 Dec the institute in collaboration with KVK-Khordha and Radio Kisan (90.8 FM) organized farmer- scientist interaction at Athantar village, Balipatna block, Khordha district, which was attended by over 100 practicing farmers and farm women. Fifteen progressive farmers were honored on this occasion.
The Institute also put up exhibition to showcase its technologies and noticeable publications. During scientist farmer interaction scientists of the institute and KVK addressed queries from farmers in local language. Representatives of Radio Kisan, ATMA, State departments and IFFCO attended the programme.
ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute
ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), Jodhpur organized Kisan Goshthis on December 23 and 25, 2015 during week long “Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan” celebrations. The Goshthis were organized at villages Kherpa, Jodhpur and Boosi, Pali in Rajasthan, and Suwai, Rapar, Bhuj in Gujarat. More than 500 farmers participated in the Goshthis.
Sh. PR Chaudhary, Zila Pramukh, Jodhpur was the chief Guest at village Kherapa.
Exhibitions on the technologies developed by CAZRI were also organized.. Besides, interactive sessions between farmers and scientists were also organized.
