Group Meeting of All India Coordinated Research Project (Vegetable Crops) Organized Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) inaugurated 34th group meeting of All India Coordinated Research Project (Vegetable Crops) on 10th May, 2016 at IARI, New Delhi. Dr. Mohapatra in his inaugural address urged the vegetable scientist to rise to the expectations of growers and consumers finding solutions to challenges being faced by them. He advised scientists to search options for enhancing production, productivity and profitability of farmers ensuring nutritional and livelihood security to masses. He also released six publications.

Dr N.K. Krishna Kumar, Deputy Director General (Horticulture); Dr Ravinder Kaur, Director IARI; Dr, Dr K. V. Prabhu Joint Director of Research, IARI and Dr B. Singh, Director IIVR also spoke on the occasion.

The meeting consisted of XII technical sessions in which, the results based on last year’s technical programme were presented and discussed. Technical programmes for 2016-17 were finalised in the plenary session.

 Six varieties (tomato determinate ATL-8-21 from Anand Agricultural University; tomato indeterminate VRT-1201 & VRT-1202 and Ridge gourd VRRG-27 from IIVR; Garden pea Powdery Mildew resistant IIHR-1 from IIHR) and one tomato hybrid Indeterminate Kaveri-304 (KTH-304) from Kaveri seeds were identified for release and notification for respective zones of adaptation.

Lt. Amit Singh Memorial Award-2015 for best performing AICRP(VC) coordinating center was awarded to Division of Vegetable Science, IARI, New Delhi. NHRDF award for best onion and garlic researcher was awarded to Dr. K.E. Lawande, former Vice Chancellor Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli, 

Dr. Major Singh, Project Coordinator presented the Annual Progress report of the AICRP(VC) for the year 2015-16.

More than 300 vegetable scientists from public (SAUs & ICAR) and private (Seed companies) institutions participated in the meeting.
