Monitoring Committee Meeting of NMSHE Task Force on Himalayan Agriculture

The first Monitoring Committee of the Task Force on Himalayan Agriculture (TF-6) under the National Mission on Sustaining Himalayan Ecosystems was organized to review the progress of work in the TF6 as envisaged and to discuss the work plan for the year 2016-17 here today.

Dr. K. Alagusundaram, DDG (NRM), ICAR, Chairman of the meeting, in his opening remarks, talked about the impacts of climate change on Himalayan agriculture and emphasized on the importance of extended scope of engineering in agricultural research. After discussions on the comprehensive regional progress was presented by the lead institutes of Cold Arid Himalaya, Lower and Middle Himalaya and North-East Himalaya, he consummated and appreciated the work done by the Task Force. Also, he mentioned that NBSS&LUP as one of the knowledge partners of the Task Force, would be of immense use in achieving the targets of the Task Force.

Dr. A. Arunachalam, TF Coordinator, gave a brief account on the inception of the Task Force in ICAR.

The members of the   Monitoring Committee from ICAR, external experts Dr. J. C. Bhatt, Former Director-VPKAS, Almora and Dr. S.K Singh (Director, NBSS&LUP) as a special invitee were present on the occassion. Scientists working in different lead and partner institutes also participated in the meeting.
