Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare inaugurated the 3-day Central Agricultural University Regional Agri-Fair 2016-17 here today.
Minister, in his inaugural address said that there is an unlimited potential of agriculture in the North Eastern states, therefore, the Government is focusing exclusively on the development of agricultural sector in north eastern states. He elaborated the benefits of various Centrally Sponsored Schemes viz. Mera Gaon, Mera Gaurav, Rashtriya Fasal Bima Yojana, Soil Health Card, and Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture. He mentioned about strengthening of Krishi Vigyan Kendras as well as extension of agricultural education.
Shri Singh said that there are tremendous potentials for beekeeping in North Eastern States. Therefore, the National Bee Board and Ministry of Agriculture has decided to set up an Integrated Bee Keeping Development Centre (IBDC) in the university.
Padma Bhushan Dr RB Singh in his presidential address said, “Organic agriculture requires the elimination of commercials fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and other dangerous chemicals. This in turn affects the whole community and creates a significantly healthier working and living environment for the farmers, their families and livestock, as well as the local wildlife”.
Dr M Premjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, CAU, Dr K. M. Bujarbaruahvice Vice Chancellor, Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat, and Directors of ICAR Institutes graced the event.
About, 4700 farmers from different states of North Eastern Region visited the mega event of the University.
