ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak, Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh organized Yak Mela here today. Lubrang village located at above 9000 ft is a village inhabited by the tribal yak rearers of the state.
The Yak Mela is coordinated in collaboration with Indian Army and ITBP. The objective of Yak Mela is to promote the scientific Yak rearing in the country.
Dr. R. S. Gandhi, ADG (AP& B), ICAR, New Delhi, Chief Guest of the event appreciated the efforts of scientists of the ICAR-NRC on Yak for organizing the Yak Mela and promised the farmers for future endeavors to promote the sustainability of highlanders through different programmes.
Dr. S. S. Bist, Director of Animal Husbandry Department, Govt. of Uttarakhand briefed about various activities regarding the yak husbandry in his state.
Gum boots, yak feeds, rope, buckets, mineral supplements etc. were distributed among 124 yak rearers.
During the Mela a book on Arunachali Yak was released by the Chief Guest.
The villagers from different villages put on stalls to showcase their traditional way of living.
