Quality Assurance in Higher Agricultural Education Emphasized in NEH Region

ICAR sponsored a day-long workshop on “Quality Assurance in Higher Agricultural Education” that was organized on 26 th March 2009 by the Assam Agricultural University at its Khanapara Campus, Guwahati. Inaugurating the workshop, Dr. S.P. Tiwari, DDG (Edn), ICAR stressed the need for not only improvement in quality of education but also to achieve excellence in imparting agricultural education. He also enlightened the audience by bringing about the details of various new initiatives that have been taken by the ICAR to improve quality and relevance of higher agricultural education in the country.

The workshop was the maiden effort for addressing quality improvement of agricultural education in the north eastern hill region of the country. Dr. S.N. Puri, VC, CAU, Imphal; Dr. B.C. Bhowmick, VC, AAU, Jorhat; Dr. R K. Mittal, ADG (EQR), ICAR; Dr. S.V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH, Region, Ri-Bhol; Deans, Directors, Registrar and faculty members of the AAU Jorhat, CAU Imphal and the Agricultural Faculty of the Central University, Medziphema, Imphal participated in the workshop. Various aspects including accreditation and criteria thereof, faculty development, student admission, evaluation and examination system, physical infrastructure, financial resources, academic governance, etc. were discussed.
