Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR, Dr. K.D. Kokate, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), Dr. A.M. Narula, Zonal Project Director, Zone-I and Director Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University visited fruit orchards of Major Manmohan Singh, a progressive farmer of Amritsar, at village Tabalpura near Ramdas tehsil nearing Pakistan Border. DG, ICAR interacted with farmers of the village and heard their problems particularly regarding construction of temporary bridge at the bank of river Ravi for transportation of inputs and produce. They also visited site of KVK Amritsar in Nagkalan village to review the progress of construction of Administration Building.
Director General and DDG (Agricultural Extension) accompanied by officials of Agriculture Department and line departments of Punjab Government visited Verka orchards at village Firivarian and inaugurated Verka turmeric processing plant set up by Major Manmohan Singh. During interaction with farmers, Dr. Ayyappan emphasized the importance of value addition in different crops and also invited farmers to speak about their problems. Dr. K.D. Kokate appreciated the work done by Major Manmohan Singh in the field of diversification. Dr. A.M. Narula assured that Scientist’s- Farmer’s interaction will be conducted at district level by the KVKs of Zone-I. Dr. Dalbir Singh Verka, Ex-MLA and Commissioner, Right to Service, Punjab also participated in the function along with more than 100 farmers.
