State Level Workshop on Integration and Effective Extension through ATMA held at KVK, Babhaleshwar

A state level workshop on ATMA for Integration and Effective Extension System was held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Babhaleshwar (8 to 9 December 2012). The workshop was organized by Department of Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra.

Shri Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Minister for Agriculture and Marketing, Govt. of Maharashtra, while inaugurating the workshop, expressed happiness that ICAR has undertaken leading role by involving the KVK with ATMA and bring about strengthening of extension system for betterment of farmers. He also said that in agriculture, being risk prone, the welfare of farmers is paramount and is required to be assisted in every possible way.

Shri Gulabrao Deokar, Minister of State for Agriculture, Govt. of Maharashtra mentioned in his presidential speech that through ATMA various programmes and projects should be undertaken which address the problems and issues of farming community. He also added that women’s participation in agricultural programmes should be increased.

Dr Kiran D. Kokate Deputy Director General (Agriculture Extension), ICAR expressed his happiness over the conduct of this convergence workshop for bringing all line departments together on a common platform for the first time in the history of KVK and the entire extension system. Initially the KVKs, which focused on training and demonstrations, have now mandated to conduct technology assessment and refinement will go a long way in improving the agricultural productivity, he said.

Dr Sudhir Kumar Goyal, Commissioner for Agriculture, Govt. of Maharashtra opined that it is important to understand the basics of agricultural technology management, technology dissemination and how it can be used to improve the agricultural productivity with the help of all the stakeholders of ATMA. He mentioned that under ATMA a project based time bound mission objectives as per the growing season are required to be met.

Earlier Shri Umakant Dangat, Commissioner for Agriculture formally welcomed the guests and dignitaries. He mentioned that it was essential to bring all the stakeholders of the state extension machinery on a common platform.

Senior officials and Directors from various departments of Agriculture and line departments, District Superintending Agriculture Officers and Project Directors of 33 Districts of Maharashtra, Programme Coordinators of KVKs of Maharashtra, Scientists from Agricultural Universities, District Marketing Managers, Agriculture Marketing Experts under MACP project and officials of other line departments participated in the event. About 250 officials of all line departments were present in this Workshop.
