National Symposium of Meat Science Association Organized

Dr. R. Prabakaran, Vice Chancellor, TANUVAS lighting the lamp during IMSACON-VNational Research Centre on Meat, Chengicherla, Hyderabad organized 5th Annual Conference and National Symposium of Indian Meat Science Association (IMSACON-V) on “Emerging technological changes to meet the demands of domestic and export meat sector” from February 7-9, 2013.

Dr. R. Prabakaran, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Chennai inaugurated the symposium. In his presidential address, he stressed upon the contribution of livestock sector for meat production, climate change aspects, need for organised meat sector development for value addition, further processing, nutritional security, quality and safe meat production and entrepreneurship development.

Earlier, Dr. V.V. Kulkarni, Director, NRC on Meat welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the role of NRC on Meat and IMSA in meeting the demands of domestic and export meat sector.

Dr. Nagendra Sharma, Former VC, SKUAST, Dr. B.S. Prakash, ADG (ANP), Dr. C.K. Thota, Director, Allasons Limited, Mumbai and Dr. V. Kesava Rao, President, IMSA also present their valuable remarks.

The 3 day symposium had four keynote addresses and four different sessions covering various aspects of meat animal production, organic meat, tracebility, improvement of fresh meat qualRelease of souvenir during the inauguration of IMSACON-Vity using cutting-edge genomics and proteomics tools, importance of utilization of slaughterhouse by-products, value added meat products processing, employment generation, advanced packaging and preservation methods, quality and safety issues in meat sector.

A video CD on “Haleem Production-a Hyderabadi Delicacy” and NRC on Meat News Letter were also released. A total of 206 delegates from across the country including scientists, faculty members, students and members from domestic and export meat industries and other multinational companies participated in the seminar.
