Agri Summit-2013 Inaugurated at Patna

Agri Summit-2013 Sh. Narendra Singh, Agricultur Minister, Govt. of Bihar inaugurated The Agri Summit 2013 at ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna today. Sh. Singh in his presidential address said due to the efforts made by the Bihar Govt., State could achieve record productivity in rice and potato. He discussed the Agri road map prepared by Bihar Govt. for achieving the targeted growth in all the sectors of agriculture during 2012 – 2022.

Agri Summit-2013 Dr. R.S. Paroda, Chairman, Haryana Kisan Ayog and former DG, ICAR, said that the second green revolution definitely will come from the eastern region. He said that hybrid maize, micro-irrigation and protected cultivation will play an important role in bringing 2nd Green revolution in ER states.

Sri Niraj Kumar Babloo, MLA, in his speech appreciated the farmers of Bihar for achieving the world record in potato production. He said that special status of Bihar will provide benefit to each and every section of the society.

Sri Alok Kumar Sinha, Agricultural Production Commissioner, Govt. of Bihar thanked scientists of this region for more rice production during 2012-13 than 2011-12 in spite of poor monsoon. There is a need of drought tolerant variety of rabi maize and terminal heat tolerant variety of wheat in Bihar, he said.

Welcoming the delegates, Dr. B. P. Bhatt, Director, ICAR RC for ER, Patna said at present the population of eastern region states is around 407 million which is going to become 550 million after four decades and also mentioned that the total production of food grains in these states is around 65 million tonnes at present and the total food grains requirement will be around 98 million tonnes at that time. Therefore, there is an urgent need to take necessary measures for bringing Second Green Revolution from these states of the country.

Dr. A. K. Singh, Vice Chancellor, Rajmata Vijayaraje Sindhiya University, Gwalior; Dr. H. S. Gupta, Director, IARI, New Delhi; Prof. Anwar Alam;  representatives of State Govts from eastern states of the country, representatives of ICAR institutes of eastern region, the scientists of ICAR RC for ER, Patna participated in the event.

The two-day summit is being organized in collaboration with PAMS, Gurgaon, New Delhi, Deptt. of Agriculture, Govt. of Bihar, NAAS, New Delhi and ICAR Research Complex for Eastern region, Patna.
