Training-cum-Study Tour Organized for African Stakeholders

The Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering (CIAE), Bhopal organized a Training-cum-Study Tour on Farm mechanization for the African Stakeholders during 29th April - 4thMay, 2013. Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research inaugurated the programme on 29th April, 2013 at NASC complex, New Delhi. In his inaugural address, Dr. Ayyappan hoped that training-cum-study tour will provide greater help to the African stakeholders.  

On this occasion, Dr. C.R. Mehta, Programme Coordinator, All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Farm Implements and Machinery (FIM) made a brief presentation on available farm machinery in India which could be useful for the African countries. Dr. M.L. Jat, Programme Coordinator, CIMMYT, New Delhi, Dr. M.M. Pandey, Deputy Director General (Engineering), Dr. N.P.S. SirohiAssistant Director General (Engineering), ICAR and Dr. Pitam Chandra, Director, CIAE, Bhopal also graced the occasion.

Sixteen participants from four African countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Zimbabwe) and their Programme Coordinators participated in the programme. The programme was sponsored under the aegis of South-South Collaboration Programme of Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) project on Farm Mechanization and Conservation Agriculture for Sustainable Intensification. It was jointly organized by ICAR and International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT), New Delhi.
