5th July 2013, Bengaluru
Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR inaugurated the Incubation-cum-Business Planning and Development (BPD) Facility for Horticulture at the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru on July 05, 2013.
While inaugurating the facility, Dr. Ayyappan said that the ICAR has also launched such facilities in other parts of the country for agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries sectors and hoped that the BPD facility created across the country would encourage small and medium scale Agri-Business enterprises by providing gainful employment opportunities and retaining youth in agriculture.
This facility is funded by the World Bank sponsored National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) of ICAR with the basic objective of dissemination and commercialization of horticultural technologies developed by IIHR. The Incubation-cum-Business Planning and Development (BPD) Facility for Horticulture will further provide techno-economic feasibility, market identification and commercialisation support for fresh entrepreneurs and start-ups, who wish to involve in commercial production through IIHR based technologies. The facility will also serve as a platform for those start-ups with innovative ideas for horticultural technologies to fine tune and scale up through hand holding support from innovators from IIHR.
