KVKs Benefitting Hill Farmers

Dr. K. D. Kokate, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR visited the Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan (VPKAS), Almora on 31st May 2013. Dr. Kokate addressed the ongoing training program for farmers under the Tribal Sub-plan. He appreciated the efforts made by the scientists of VPKAS in transfer of technology to the farmers. He assured the farmers to give them full support through the KVKs at Pithoragarh and Bageshwar. It was emphasized that the sustainability and livelihood security of hill farmers are the key for their development.

Farmers from the higher mountain areas of Uttarakhand i.e. Munsyari, Sarmoli, Bunga, Dharchula, Pangu, Sirkha and Gunji expressed that they are highly benefited by the VPKAS technologies like improved seeds of crops and vegetables and agricultural implements which can be helpful in improving their livelihood.
