Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR inaugurated the newly built Silver Jubilee Block at Project Directorate on Poultry (PDP), Rajendranagar, Hyderabad on 20th July 2013.
While addressing the officials of PDP, Dr. Ayyappan appreciated the contributions of PDP in improving livelihood status of rural and tribal people through backyard poultry production and said that PDP is one of the few institutes of ICAR that have excelled in supplying improved germplasm to farmers. He also urged to strengthen research in consortia mode employing multi-disciplinary approach involving local SAUs, ICAR institutes and other line departments. Dr. Ayyappan appreciated the design of the building and congratulated the institute for creating such a nice facility. He also visited the hatchery, farm and the recently acquired site from SVVU for creating Germplasm Supply Unit.
Dr. K.M.L. Pathak, DDG (AS), ICAR also graced the occasion and expressed satisfaction at the work progress at the institute.
Earlier, Dr. R.N. Chatterjee, Acting Project Director, PDP welcomed the dignitaries and gave a brief account of the profile and salient achievements of PDP since its establishment in 1988 and contributions made in promoting rural poultry production through the developed varieties i.e. Vanaraja and Gramapriya, which are in great demand across the country including NEH, Jammu & Kashmir and Andman & Nicobar islands.
Dr. V. Prabhakar Rao, Vice Chancellor, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU), Tirupati; Dr. A. Padma Raju, Vice Chancellor, Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University, Hyderabad; Dr. S.L. Goswami, Director, NAARM and the Directors of other ICAR institutes in Hyderabad, besides several other invitees from, SVVU, ANGRAU, state AH Dept., poultry industry, farmer associations, NGOs, etc. were also present on the occasion.
