Shri Tariq Anwar Inaugurated Fish Farmers’ Meet

Shri Tariq Anwar, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Government of India inaugurated one day awareness programme and farmers-scientists Interaction Meet at Katihar.

While addressing the gathering Shri Anwar said that the fish farmers and fishers of Katihar needed to be trained at Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) Centres in order to achieve higher productivity from the vast water resources available in the district. He stressed that Katihar fishermen and fish farmers should lead the entire Bihar state. Shri Anwar also urged the Department of Fisheries, Government of Bihar to develop leaflets on the programmes related to fisheries and aquaculture.

Dr. M.L. Choudhary, Vice Chancellor, Bihar Agricultural University emphasized upon community-mobilization to transfer the technologies in inland fisheries and aquaculture. Shri Nishat Ahmed, Director, Department of Fisheries, Bihar detailed the different schemes for fisheries of Centre and State. Dr. A.K.Pal, Joint Director, appraised that 500 fish farmers from Katihar district will be trained at three different canters of the Institute under the training programme funded by NFDB. Dr. S.N.Ojha, Dr. V.K.Tiwari and Dr. B.K.Mahapatra, Principal Scientists from CIFE, Mumbai also participated in the meeting.

The meeting was organized by CIFE, Mumbai in collaboration with Bihar Agricultural University and Department of Fisheries, Government of Bihar on inland fisheries and aquaculture.
