Biennial Workshop of AICRP on Water Management and Ground Water Utilization Organized

Biennial Workshop of All India Coordinated Research Project on Water Management (AICRPWM) and Ground Water Utilization (AICRPGWU) was organized during 29th July to 1st August, 2013 at Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), Navsari, Gujarat.

Shri Govindbhai Patel, State Minister for Agriculture, Food and Civil Supply, Consumers Affairs, Forest and Environment, Government of Gujarat inaugurated the workshop. Shri Patel emphasized upon efficient utilization of available water resources through micro irrigation and creating awareness among the farmers regarding importance of water to overcome the problems of water scarcity in the state. He also stressed upon the importance and need for soil health cards for maintaining soil fertility.

In his address as Guest of Honour, Dr. A. K. Sikka, DDG (NRM) expressed concern over declining groundwater level in some parts of the country, water-energy nexus, regulatory mechanism for groundwater, and emphasized upon the convergence of different water management programmes/schemes.

Dr. A. R. Pathak, Vice-Chancellor, NAU accentuated upon the judicious use of water and lauded the work done under this project and cited many examples where farmers of Gujarat have replicated the technologies generated by the AICRP centre at Navsari.

More than 120 scientists from 34 network centers participated in the workshop. Researches carried out at different centers were reviewed and technical programmes to address location specific water management issues were finalized during the workshop.
