Shri Sharad Pawar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Government of India unveiled the portrait of ‘Mahatma Jyotiba Phule’ at Krishi Bhawan here today. After unveiling of portrait, Shri Pawar also addressed the gathering. Mahatma Jyotirao Govindrao Phule was born in a farmer family at Satara, Maharashtra in 1827. He contributed towards reforming education, caste system, agriculture, and espoused the cause of women and widow upliftment.
Shri Charandas Mahant and Shri Tariq Anwar, Ministers of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries also graced the occasion.
Earlier, Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR welcomed the dignitaries and briefed the gathering about the contribution of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule in the field of Agricultural Reforms.
Shri Shishir Shinde, Artist of the portrait made a presentation of paintings on the occasion. Deputy Directors General,
Assistant Directors General and officials of ICAR were also present on the occasion.
