DMAPR, Anand Celebrated 22nd Foundation Day

The 22nd Foundation day of the Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research (DMAPR), Anand (formally known as NRCMAP) was celebrated on 24th November, 2013.

Dr. C. Devakumar, Former Assistant Director-General (EPD) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)

In his inaugural address, Dr. C. Devakumar, Former Assistant Director-General (EPD) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) elaborated the importance of medicinal plants in ensuring primary health care and nutritional security. He stressed upon the need for popularization of medicinal and aromatic plants among farmers groups and targeted research on entire value chain of one or two medicinal plants having high commercial and health importance.

In his presidential address, Dr. A.M. Shekh, Vice-Chancellor, Anand Agricultural University (AAU) emphasized upon the need of sharing wealth of information on medicinal and aromatic plants to the end users. He highlighted various problems being faced by these farmers viz., marketing, post harvest management and value addition in this region.

Dr. K.C. Dalal, Former Director, NRCMAP; Dr. K.B. Katharia, Director of Research, AAU; Dr. G.G. Rao, Head, Regional Research Station-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (RRS-CSSRI), Bharuch; Dr. Manish Das, Principal Scientist, Horticulture Division, ICAR, Headquarters; Professors from Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Heads of ICAR organisations in Gujarat also participated in the programme.

Earlier, Dr. Satyabrata Maiti, Director, DMAPR welcomed the dignitaries and briefed about achievements of the Directorate.

Dr. Satyanshu Kumar, Principal Scientist, DMAPR proposed vote of thanks.
