Network of ICAR Fisheries Institutes for the And Fish (Andhra Fisheries)

Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR visited the Kakinada Centre of Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) on 16th November, 2013.

While addressing various stakeholders, Dr. Ayyappan emphasized upon the need of collaborative efforts of different ICAR institutes and state organizations for the improvement of overall agriculture in the region. He also announced the formation of Network of five ICAR Fisheries Institutes along with other stakeholders to prioritize the activities and strategies from production to marketing for the And Fish (Andhra Fisheries) as a new initiative. This group will meet twice a year at a suitable location in the state for in-depth discussions and technological inventions. Dr. Ayyappan appreciated the centre for development of brood stock of milkfish and successful farming of Pangasius in brackish water.

Shri M.V.S. Nagi Reddy, Member, ICAR Governing Body also addressed the gathering and pointed out the need of involvement of farmers in all policy decisions for the improvement of agriculture sector.

Dr. T. Rajyalakshmi, Former Director, CIBA, Chennai; Dr. A.K. Pal, Joint Director, CIFE, Mumbai and Dr. Narasimham, Former HOD, CMFRI, Cochin were also present during the event.

Earlier, Dr. W.S. Lakra, Director, CIFE welcomed the dignitaries and briefed the gathering about the ongoing research, training and extension activities in the centre.

Dr. P.P. Suresh Babu, the Officer In-Charge, CIFE, Kakinada Centre proposed the vote of thanks.
