Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), Raipur and Zonal Project Directorate, ICAR, Zone-VII, Jabalpur jointly organized a training-cum-awareness programme on Protection of Plant Variety and Farmers’ Right Act under sponsorship of Protection Plant Variety and Farmers’ right Authority ((PPV&FRA), Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India on 1-3 December, 2013.
Dr. R.R. Hanchinal, Chairman, PPV&FRA inaugurated the programme and appreciated the work regarding conservation, research on different germplasm and activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the state. He also praised the work carried out on conservation of scented rice, red rice, pulses and tuber crops by the farmers of Chattisgarh as well as IGKV, Raipur.
Dr. S.K. Patil, Vice-Chancellor, IGKV, Raipur informed that collected germplasm included 23,250 rice germplasm, 1,350 linseed and 1,900 germplasm of minor millet crops.
Dr. Ravi Prakash, Registrar, PPV&FRA informed the gathering about the rules and regulation of PPV&FR Act 2001 with the procedure of registration of plant varieties to farmers.
Dr. Deepak Sharma, Principal Scientist, Genetics and Plant Breeding, IGKV, Raipur displayed the present status of conservation of plant varieties by the IGKV.
Shri P.R. Kridutt, Director Agriculture; Shri M.L. Adil; Shri B.D. Sahu, Board Member and Deans, Directors and Scientists were also present on the occasion.
A documetry film on benefits of PPV&FR Act was shown to farmers. Dignitaries also visited the hot spot of bio-diversity of the state.
The programmes were organized at KVK, Kanker, Jagdalpur and IGKV, Raipur on 1,2 and 3 December, 2013 respectively.
More than 400 farmers from different districts of the state participated in this training-cum-awareness programme.
Dr. Hanchinal and members of PPV & PR Authority along with Dr. Anupam Mishra, Zonal Project Director, Dr. J.S. Urkurkar, Director Extension and scientists of IGKV visited the hot spot of bio-diversity of the state during this visit.
