Regional Centre, Motipur, Muzaffarpur (Bihar) of Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research celebrated Silver jubilee

The Regional Research Centre of Indian Institute of Sugarcane, Motipur celebrated Silver Jubilee on 29-30 November 2013 by holding a National Seminar on “IISR Initiatives for Improving Sugarcane and Sugar Industry in India sub-tropics” and farmer’s training on Quality Sugarcane Seed Production. Dr. S. Solomon, Director, IISR, Lucknow inaugurated the programmes. While congratulating everyone on completion of twenty five years of the Regional Centrehe highlighted major achievements and future road map of the centre. He informed that new facilities for Soil Testing and Bio-control Laboratory for the farmers of this region will be created at Motipur. The seminar was attended by Scientists, sugar mill representatives, sugarcane development personnel and farmers., lectures in the seminar covered different aspects of sugarcane cultivation in sub tropical India. Training on Quality Seed Production in Sugarcane was conducted in which more than 200 farmers participated.

Dr. A.D. Pathak, Nodal Officer reported the  major achievements of the center that include five early maturing varieties i.e Co 87263, Co 87268, Co 89029, Co 0232 and CoLk 94184 and one mid-late maturing (Co 0233) varieties for north central zone of India  in addition to evaluation of germplasm/ interspecific and intergeneric hybrids for target breeding. Seed Production made in past and seed production under Bihar Sugarcane Seed Production was also highlighted.
