Dr. A.K. Sikka, Deputy Director General (NRM) visited Rasidpur village in Ropar district on 11th January, 2014. KVK, Ropar is implementing NICRA programme in this village.
Dr. Sikka appreciated the efforts of the KVK in piloting climate resilient agriculture in the village and shared the outcome of NICRA interventions. He emphasized upon the agroforestry as it is more suitable for this area and also one of the options to tackle climate issues. He urged NRC on agroforestry for imparting training in NICRA village near future. He also talked with the representatives of Village Climate Risk Management Committees (VCRMC) and got their feedback on custom hiring centre.
Dr. A.M. Narula, Zonal Project Director, Zone-I shared the experience of resource conservation technologies and advised farmers for adoption of new improved machinery in agriculture like Happy Seeder, Zero tillage techniques, sprinkler irrigation system and protected vegetable cultivation.
Dr. A.K. Tiwari, Head, CSWCRTI, Chandigarh was also present in the programme.
Dignitaries also visited the field of Mr. Ravinder Singh to observe the performance of Happy Seeder- a machine for direct drilling of wheat in standing paddy stubbles (without burning the paddy straw). They also visited the field of Mr. Baljit Singh to observe the performance of newly introduced poplar clone (PL 5) in agroforestry system. Dr. Sikka was also shown the sprinkler irrigation system in wheat at Mr. Gurdit Singh’s farm.
A Farmer- Scientist interaction programme was arranged at Farmers Service Station of NICRA. NICRA activities were also exhibited at the site.
