A brain storming session on ‘Strategy Related to Conservation and Productivity Enhancement of Farm Animal Genetic Resources’ was inaugurated at NASC complex, New Delhi.
Shri Anup Kumar Thakur, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries, Government of India inaugurated the workshop as Chief Guest. In his address, Shri Thakur emphasized upon the conservation of genetic resources of indigenous farm animal breeds for enhancement in milk and meat production of country. He also urged the state authorities and departments to make efforts in identification of local breeds and to arrange at least one barnyard only for that local breed.
Dr. R.S. Paroda, Chairman, Trust for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences (TAAS) and Chairman, Haryana Kisan Ayog stressed upon the documentation and registration of indigenous farm animal genetic resources and said that an action plan should be sketched for the conservation of animal genetic resources.
Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR highlighted the importance of the workshop and emphasized upon the need for more investment in animal resource conservation.
Dr. K.M.L. Pathak, Deputy Director General (Animal Sciences), ICAR and Chairman, Organizing Committee informed the gathering about the background and theme of the workshop.
Earlier, Dr. Arjava Sharma, Director, National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources and Organizing Secretary welcomed the dignitaries and informed about the objectives of the workshop.
Vice-Chancellors of Agricultural Universities, former directors, scientists and senior officials of ICAR and scientists from the State Line Departments are participating in the workshop.
Dr. N.N. Singh, Secretary, TAAS proposed the vote of thanks.
