Interface meeting on ‘Improving Health and Productivity of Tharpakar Cattle’ was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), Jodhpur on 6th January, 2014.
Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Srivastava, Director and Vice-Chancellor, National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his inaugural address, Prof. Srivastava said that the state of Rajasthan has precious livestock germplasm in the form of very good dairy cattle breeds like Tharparkar and Rathi. He emphasized upon the joint efforts of NDRI and CAZRI for promotion and conservation of Tharparkar cattle to provide nutritional security to the arid farmers.
Dr. N.V. Patil, Director, National Research Centre on Camel (NRCC), Bikaner was the Guest of Honor. He stressed upon the need for strengthening of collaboration among all stakeholders to address the issues related to productivity, conservation and promotion of Tharparkar cattle.
Dr. M.M. Roy, Director, CAZRI briefed the gathering about the performance and salient achievements of Tharparkar cattle maintained at the institute.
Earlier, Dr. B.K. Mathur, Principal Scientist welcomed the dignitaries and participants.
Scientists from NDRI, CAZRI, and officials from Department of Animal Husbandry, ATMA, NABARD, RCDF, NGOs, Livestock owners/farmers, Programme Coordinators and Subject Matter Specialists (Animal Science/Veterinary Science) of KVKs of Rajasthan and Gujarat participated in the interface meeting and discussed the strategies for improving health and productivity of Tharparkar cattle.
