Dr. Kirti Singh, Former Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) inaugurated the Foundation Course for Agricultural Research Service (FOCARS), 99th batch at the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad on 1st January, 2014. In his address, Dr. Singh emphasized upon the need of research in agriculture and said that innovation through research is of no use unless it taken to the farmer. Technologies must be tested and implemented in farmers’ fields for their benefit. He also shared his experience as a researcher, a Vice-Chancellor and as Chairman of different committees during his professional career. During the session, Dr. Kirti Singh also released the NAARM Newsletter, Oct-Dec 2013.
Whileaddressing the batch, Dr. S.L. Goswami, Director, NAARM said that the advances in agriculture that has taken India from the “Ship to Mouth,” existence to not only self-sufficiency in foodgrains production but also the ability to export foodgrains and other agricultural commodities.
Earlier, Dr. Kalpana Sastry, Joint Director, NAARM gave an overview of the FOCARS and its activities.
Two hundred and five newly recruited scientists of the ICAR reported at NAARM for the three months FOCARS programme, the flagship programme at NAARM, Hyderabad. The FOCARS is spread over three phases and will conclude on 31st March, 2014.
