Workshop on Managing Arid Agriculture in Changing Climate organized at CAZRI

A workshop on ‘Managing Arid Agriculture in Changing Climate’ was organized at the Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), Jodhpur on 4th February, 2014 under the National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA).

Dr. T. S Rathore, Director, Arid Forest Research Institute (AFRI), Jodhpur and Chief Guest of the event appreciated timely efforts of CAZRI to conduct this scientist-stakeholder interaction in the changing environmental scenario.

Dr. Y.V. Singh, Project Director, ZPD Zone-VI, Jodhpur, highlighted the role of KVKs in transferring technologies to the farmers to counter act the impact of climate change.

Dr. M.M. Roy, Director, CAZRI, explained the impact of changing climate, especially focusing on arid agriculture and mentioning the necessity of developing climate resilient crop varieties and technologies for the region.

An interactive discussion on applicable technologies to combat weather changing patterns in western Rajasthan was also conducted. Posters presenting the ongoing research at CAZRI related to climate change, its mitigation and adaptation were displayed on the occasion. Dr. Dipankar Saha, Senior Scientist coordinated the event.

Over 100 participants from ICAR Institutes, state line departments, State Agriculture University, NGOs, KVKs and farmers participated in the workshop.

Earlier, Dr. R. K. Bhatt, PI of the project welcomed the dignitaries.

Dr. J. Arvind Kumar, Senior Scientist proposed vote of thanks.
