India Institute of Vegetable Research (IIVR), Varanasi organized a National Farmer’s Fair and Vegetable showcasing on 1st February, 2014.
Dr. Kalloo Gautam, Former Deputy Director General (Horticulture and Crop Sciences) and Former Vice Chancellor, JNKVV, Jabalpur inaugurated the fair. In his address, Dr. Gautam emphasized upon the development of new varieties as per change in the climate. He congratulated the institute for developing new technologies in vegetable seed production and urged the authorities to deliver the new technologies to farmers through the extension agencies of State Government and Krishi Vigyan Kendras. Dr. Gautam also highlighted the importance of protected cultivation for more profitable vegetables production.
Earlier, Dr. P.S. Naik, Director, IIVR, Varanasi welcomed the dignitaries and participants and informed the gathering about the activities of the institute.
A total of 33 stalls related to vegetables, potato, seeds, fertilizer, fisheries, onion garlic etc. displayed by various research Institute under the aegis of ICAR, Agricultural Universities, Government and Private Sector. More than five thousand Farmers from different state participated in the fair.
This fair was organized in collaboration with National Agriculture Innovation Project (NAIP) and Association for Promotion Innovation in Vegetable (APIV) to educate the farmers regarding modern vegetable production.
