Shellfish Food Festival ShellCon-2014 Organized at Kochi

The Shellfish Food Festival– ShellCon-2014 was organized by Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Kochi during 22nd-23rd March, 2014 under the NAIP value chain on high value shellfish. Dr. T.K. Srinivasa Gopal, Director, CIFT inaugurated ShellCon-2014.

Participants visited the exhibition stalls and tasted the best bivalve seafood and acquired knowledge about its health benefits and nutrition. Cookery competition was also organized.

The main objective of ShellCon-2014 was to make people aware about shellfish (oysters, mussels and clams) as a highly nutritious food with various health benefits, viz. better immunity, mental and reproductive alertness. The event brought together research and development professionals in the government and in the private sector to debate on the progress in shellfish farming in India and evolve policy for future development.

Dr. A. Gopalakrishnan, Director, CMFRI and Dr. S. Girija, Director, NIFPHATT were also present on the occasion.
