Directorate of Soybean Research (DSR), Indore and Birsa Agricultural University (BAU), Ranchi, Jharkhand jointly organized the 44th Annual Group Meeting of AICRP Soybean at BAU, Ranchi during 25th-27th May, 2014.
Dr. Swapan K. Dutta, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR and Dr. M.P. Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, BAU inaugurated the meeting.
In his address, Dr. Dutta emphasized upon the use of biological nitrogen fixation in soybean and said nutrient use efficiency and drought tolerant varieties can be developed only through biological means. He also accentuated the need of enhancement of national average yield and advised to take up soybean in other states under RKVY scheme.
Dr. M.P. Pandey appreciated the soybean scientists to make every possible effort in enhancing the productivity and acreage of soybean in the country to improve the economy and nutritional security.
Dr. J.S. Chauhan, Assistant Director General (Seeds), ICAR presented the brief introduction on 44th Annual Group Meeting and provided the genesis of AICRP system in soybean.
Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director, DSR presented the current scenario of soybean in India and reviewed the soybean improvement work carried out during 2013-14. He highlighted the need of procurement of soybean to expand the acreage in some of the states having potential for soybean.
Earlier, Dr. D.K. Singh ‘Dron’, Additional Director (Research), BAU welcomed the dignitaries and participants.
More than 125 scientists from different AICRP-soybean centers across the country and other senior officials from government departments/private sector organizations participated in the workshop.
Dr. Z.A. Haider, Chairman, Plant Breeding and Genetics at BAU and Organizing Secretary proposed vote of thanks.
