National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad organized the 100th Batch of the Foundation Course for Agricultural Research Service (FOCARS) on 1st July, 2014.
Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, Former Director General, ICAR graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, Dr. Swaminathan emphasized upon the need for expanding the capacity building programmes of NAARM to cater to the international clientele. Dr. Swaminathan is credited with the creation of the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and had inaugurated the first Foundation Course in 1976. Dr. Swaminathan also released a postal stamp with a Special Cover.
Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR presided over the function. He discussed about the challenges being faced by the Indian agriculture. Dr. Ayyappan stressed the need for tailoring the capacity building programmes to address these challenges.
Dr. D. Rama Rao, Director NAARM emphasized on the importance of ‘FOCARS’ in developing quality human resource for agricultural research.
Former Directors of NAARM were also felicitated on the occasion. They shared the refinements brought out in the Foundation Course during their tenure at the Academy.
Dignitaries released the Souvenir (100 FOCARS), Directory detailing the list of participants in the last 99 batches, Album titled ‘FOCARS Memories Unfolded’, compilation of poems in Hindi written by participants of various Foundation Courses entitled ‘Swarnima’; and NAARM Annual Report 2013-14.
Seventy one newly-recruited scientists were the proud participants of this historical 100th batch.
Deputy Directors Generals; Directors of ICAR institutes; and senior officials and scientists of ICAR participated in the function.
